Water Leaks
To check for a water leak, make sure that no water is running inside (washing machines, dishwashers, etc. are off) or outside (water sprinklers, etc. are off).  Go outside in your front yard and locate your water meter.  Typically it will be on the edge of your property in a black box with a blue lid.  There may be one or two meters inside.  If there are two meters, one is your meter and the other is your neighbors.  Yours is the meter closest to your property.  Open the meter lid, look at the meter, which is similar to a car odometer.  If the red, orange, or black triangle moves during this time, then water is going through the meter.  This means that something is using water on your property.

  • Look for signs of a leak (wet spots, puddles of water, etc.) on the ground between the meter box and your house.
  • You may call the Angelina and Neches River Authority at (936) 632-7795 to request a leak check on your meter.
  • If the leak is on the customer line (ex: customer water line located from the meter box to the house), then you will need to call a plumber to locate the leak and repair it.
