About Prairie Grove Utilities

The Prairie Grove Water Supply Corporation (WSC) was a rural water system, located approximately 0.5 miles east of the City of Diboll. Its service area extends east along FM 1818 for approximately 5 miles.

The WSC was created in 1965 to serve the Prairie Grove community, and over time, the community grew, as did the WSC. However, like many small, rural water systems, the WSC struggled to maintain its infrastructure and meet the increasing regulatory demands for water treatment. With no support staff or funding to repair the failing infrastructure, the WSC was unable to keep the system in compliance with state and federal regulations. As a result, the WSC had been subject to dozens of violations and ongoing enforcement actions.

On September 24, 2020, the WSC and the Authority entered into an operations and management agreement. As part of that agreement, the Authority began managing the affairs of the WSC, including all operational aspects of the water system.

After a unanimous vote by Prairie Grove’s voting membership, on November 23, 2020, the Authority formally began the process to acquire the WSC, confirming the community’s desire for a more stable and reliable water system.

After a 22-month regulatory process, the Authority completed the acquisition process with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC). In July 2022, Prairie Grove WSC officially joined the Authority’s family of utilities, under the new name Prairie Grove Utilities.

Since that time, the Authority has restored the system to a stable operational state, with plans underway to further increase water quantity and quality, as well as upgrading water distribution lines to meet demands for this growing community.
